Humble Beginnings

One of today’s tasks involved some quick product photography, and while my home office doesn’t have quite the stature in entrepreneurial folklore as Dave Packard’s garage, or Michael Dell’s dorm room (not yet at least…), everybody has to start somewhere, right?  Welcome to the tegu photo studio, a work in progress.

With no large white surfaces, (my bed sheets are colored- pastels are more soothing) and with no time to run out and grab a roll of butcher paper, I had to make do with supplies at hand.  How many studio shutter bugs can say their photo stage doubles as file storage?  A few 20 x 30″ sheets of bond taped together serves as the backdrop (my seamless has seams), and a clip on lamp from Home Depot with a custom diffuser (aka- the bottom of a milk jug) and we’re flying fast and loose, but good enough for government work.

If the toys don't work out, we have a backup...

...and color.

...and color.

I’ve still got some color correction issues to work out, and the lighting needs to be reigned in a little bit better.  Oh, and a tripod would be nice too.  But for now, it does the job just fine.  I’m looking forward to getting some more use out of it in the months to come, and the results can be seen right here of course.
